Bismillah Al Rahman Al Raheem
Asalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatu,

MAN its been a long time.

I can't really update a long entry right now, but I'll throw some pictures in. I'm sorry, we've all been pretty busy.

The last week has consisted of

Hussein buying

a new car...

.. just kidding.

But he did buy a new coat. I don't have a picture of the coat he bought yet, but I do have a picture of

<>
Hussein trying on a silly hat. Needless to say, he didn't buy it.

This was the coat that I told Hussein to buy

I don't know why he didn't agree..hmph.

While we were shopping, Sharif lost one of his gloves. It was a pretty sad day until

Dr. Amazing Hussein found it. MashAllah, he's got the eyes of a surgeon.

Later on during the week, we went to a going away party for our friend

Arif Hussain. He's the coordinator of the Muslim youth group 'Young Muslims' here in the midwestern United States, also a close friend of Sharif, me, and now Hussein.
Here's a shot of Hussein getting ready.

Hussein brushing his hair in the backround. So hot.

There was plenty of food and cake which both Arif

and his cousin

enjoyed.

Insha Allah, Hussein wishes Arif safe travels and prays that he benefits from his 6 months in Egypt. Ameen.

Um lets see what else.

Nothing really, Hussein's been at classes alot downtown

next to the Sears Tower. So yeah...

But Insha Allah, we'll have more pictures and updates more often now.

Ma' Salaam

Bismillah Al-Rahman Al-Raheem,
Asalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatu,

...

So..

we didn't really take that many pictures yesterday...

cause I slept till like 1:30.

Hussein and Sharif went to go check out the apartments right by our house and the masjid yesterday morning while I was in dreamland.

Alhamdulilah, he says he likes them, and pending observation of downtown apartments today, Insha Allah, the apartments near our house have a strong case for him to live there. Insha Allah, we'll see.

Hussein also got an American cell phone plan with

T-Mobile today, so now he can use his cell phone in the states without getting charged like 20 cents per minute. Khair, Insha Allah.

SubhanAllah, we got hooked up by this guy

named Saad Zuberi - a Muslim medical student, who, oddly enough, lived in Jeddah a few years back. Even though Hussein already has a pretty sweet phone, Saad gave us a

complimentary phone as part of a promotion for activating a new plan. Insha Allah, we're going to sell it on eBay and go out to breakfast. We are ALWAYS thinking about food

Speaking of food my mom made dinner tonight - falafel. Yummy, Hussein was so happy. We actually have no pictures, because we were too busy eating, but..

that's exactly what it looked like. Delicious.

When we got back from the phone store, Hussein popped in his new SIM card,

and Allahu Akbar, it worked. Alhamdulilah, he is officially accessible in the states. Considering his popularity, I'm not sure if it's a good idea posting his number on the internet, but here goes.

Hussein El-Badawi M.D.'s (in Saudi Arabia and Canada only), new AMERICAN cell phone number is

[630] 261.5185

After a long day of doing very little, we were really tired. As me and Sharif were just chatting online, about to go to bed, I looked over at Hussein, who had miraculously fallen asleep while

balancing his laptop on his one leg. Masha Allah, Hussein is so talented in so many ways

Alright. Insha Allah, we'll have a bigger update today, more from downtown, from the swimming pool, and from the weight room.

Asalamu Alaikum from

Sharif

Me

and our brother Hussein.

Bismillah Al Rahman Al Raheem,
Asalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatu,

Insha Allah, Hussein wishes that everyone has had a good last couple of days. So do I, and if Sharif were awake, he probably would too. Sharif's deep slumber is appropriate right now, seeing as how we had probably the longest day in a while today. After enjoying breakfast, went to Chicago once again to have a meeting with the KAPLAN coordinator, and then took a long walk around the city, and didn't get back till about 7:30 PM. Phew.

The following is a picture led story -

After waking up for Salatul Fajr, Sharif and I fell back asleep almost immediately. I was woken up frequently during this nap by an Arabic chatting Hussein, assuming he was talking to his family or friends or something. When I finally woke up around 11:30, Hussein told me how hungry he was, and I felt pangs in my stomach as well, so we decided to go wake up Sharif and get some breakfast. After going to pray Dhuhr at the Mosque, we decided to go to Lume's Pancake house, a local diner by our house. Upon entering, Hussein saw something that he thought was candy as he

disregarded the obvious serving spoon, and reached in with his hand to get some of the "candy", later found out to be creamy mints. Hussein liked them either way, and as he munched away we were led by a man probably named

Vito, as seen by his Italian nose/eye brows. Allahu 'Alam.

'Vito' led us to our booth, where we accepted the task of trying to find a suitable breakfast that wouldn't make us fatter, but would energize us for the pending activities of the day, which included weight lifting and swimming laps - neither of which were accomplished [tomorrow, Insha Allah]. Hussein chose the famous

Spinach and Feta Cheese Omelette. Delicious.

After being served coffee that I, personally, didn't think was dark enough, I looked over at Sharif,

who looked either
A) extremely happy about the coffee.
or B) extremely sad about the coffee.
I never asked about it, so I guess we'll never know.

Moving on..I took a gander to my left, and saw Hussein simply couldn't wait for the main course; the mints were too far away to get up and get some more, and his stomach was knocking on hungers door. This intense feeling drove him to eat

the jelly packets. Yum.

I was too excited to take pictures when the food came, I completely forgot. But Sharif did. Me and Hussein completely lost it and just focused on our food, seen here.

There wasn't much left, but those portions were huge. Here's a picture of the take home plate though.

On the left you can see some pancakes that were left over, and on the bottom right you see the feta cheese eggs. On top of that are some hash browns, and to top it off, Hussein put away a jelly packet for later.

As we were waiting in line with our bill, we had noticed that an elderly couple just up and walked out of the restaurant..without paying!

That's a picture of the thieves in their get away car. Punks. Don't feel sorry for old people anymore.

Next on the agenda was heading downtown..again. This time, however, we took the

train. It's way more practical and less stress cause someone else is driving.

When we arrived it was time for Salatul Asr, so we needed to pray. Hussein is so used to Saudi Arabia, where they would probably have a Mosque in the train station, but no..not here buddy. You gotta find a clear hallway to do that it. We found a corner in one of the shops, Alhamdulilah. I didn't want Hussein's beautiful forehead and nose to get dirty during Sujood, so I

put my coat on the floor for us to do Sujood on. Hey, when something is as beautiful as his face, you gotta do your best to keep it beautiful.

On our way to the KAPLAN floor in the building it's in I explained to Hussein that these words

translate from American Slang into real English roughly into "an Indian/Pakistani workplace."

When we got to the KAPLAN floor, we asked our good friend Kunjal to get the coordinator of international affairs, a woman named Emily who, as we found out later, had been on vacation for 2 weeks.

Emily waited for about 20 minutes doing absolutely nothing before she took us into her office, she really just

sat there and didn't do anything. It could've been our random break out into laughter because of an inside joke, who knows. Hussein got the answers that he was looking for, for the most part, so we headed out to go pray Salatul Maghrib at the Downtown Islamic Center, a nice building downtown for Muslims to come pray in. Pretty sweet.

After that we went on a little stroll downtown. Hussein wanted to see the sights, so me and Sharif took him. I mainly stood behind and took pictures as

those two walked ahead and talked.

We saw a lot of

Christmas lights that were still up, as well as a lot of

People that looked Jewish - which was funny cause Hussein freaked out everytime he saw one. Haha.

Next we took the inner-city train to get to the other side of the city. While we were bored in the station we decided to do a couple things.

1)Take a cool perspective type picture

Accomplished that...
2)Take a picture next to a police officer without him knowing -

Accomplished that.

Alhamdulilah.

We were having a good time.
The train got a little boring, until Hussein decided he wanted to do some more trick photography

Man, Hussein is a funny guy, isn't he?

By that time we had decided that we wanted to go home. Alhamdulilah, it was a long day, and we got through it. From Chicago, its Hussein, Sharif and I saying

Oh wait, Sharif was on his own there.
Alright well that's Sharif saying M'a Salaam.

THERE we go, there's all three of us.

Ahem

From Chicago - Asalamu Alaikum, min Hussein el Badawi.
and his friend Sharif
and the photographer, me.

but most importantly, Hussein.

Monday, January 02, 2006

Bismillah Al Rahman Al Raheem,
Asalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatu,

ALLLLRIGHTY then, very eventful day Alhamdulilah, very fast paced and exciting, like Sharif when he hears dinner is ready.

Hussein started out the day with high hopes,

as seen by his vibrant, beautiful smile in his picture - MashAllah - best looking Saudi we've ever seen.

We started out the day by opening up Hussein's first American bank account at

Chase Bank, the only bank in our area with free checking - and hey, whats better than anything thats free? That's right nothing

We were enthusiastically greeted by the half-charming, half-homosexual

Prem B. Jacob. An Indian with the last name Jacob - go figure. He got Hussein all set up and loaded of all of his cash into an account for use later on, Insha Allah. Khair.

Tayyub, we move on to downtown Chicago.

Hussein quickly realizes that Chicago is called "The Windy City" for a reason - it is cold and windy here, boy, and Insha Allah you'll get used to it, cause you're here for a little while .

After Sharif locks our highly attractive

Mini-van, we head off to look at the nearest apartment buildings close to Hussein's class. We find out that all the renting offices are closed, so we quickly change plans to scope out Hussein's KAPLAN class building. Everything was going great, the girl at the desk was being very polite while helping us out, when all of the sudden *dun dun dunnnn* we met

Kunjal Harawi. She rudely interrupted the clerk at the desk and kept bugging the crap out of us. She then decided it was her duty to take Hussein, Sharif, and I on a tour of the building. Every room was the same, yet she introduced them like they were different.

When we finally escaped the jaws of Kunjal, we headed back towards the Mosque to pray Asr and Maghrib. On the way back I wanted to see something interesting to make their trip downtown worthwhile. While taking a glance out the window

I noticed something so cool. Hussein, Sharif, and I all agreed that

Police officers are totally alot cooler on Segways.
After praying our Salat, we went back home and then broke our fast to a gigantic feast prepared by Tunt Faten - Alhamdulilah.

It was then decided that we should go get Hussein a new connection to the outer world by him purchasing

a NEW LAPTOP!!! WOOO Mashallah, it's very nice and fast, and now he's part of the

Muslim-American Hottie with A Laptop Club. Sharif needed a co-member, and now he got it. Good times.

Alhamdulilah, Hussein could not be more pleased with Day 1 in America ma' Akhuk.

yabayo!!!!!

Insha Allah, thats it for now, more to post tomorrow while downtown in Chicago getting more apartments. Tisbah Al Khair, min Chicago. YAHO!!!!!!

-
Hussein, AbdelRahman, and Sharif

P.S. - One last thought

...Yeah, its what I was thinking too...

Bismillah Al Rahman Al Raheem
Asalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatu

Ehh....yanni, how do you say.
This is the blog that will hold as the not-so-official record of the travels of Dr. Hussein El-Badawi, as seen through the eyes of Sharif, Hussein or AbdelRahman's cell phones. Insha Allah, it should end up being a pretty eventful journal, unless of course the inevitable happens; we just sit around all day and talk. Luckily, Hussein and Sharif are both athletic and physically fit to motivate the lethargic AbdelRahman to movement, and to experience Chicago.

Day 1 -
Sharif

Hussein

and AbdelRahman

Are going to downtown Chicago to get Hussein the necessary equipment to survive and function as an urbanite of America. These items include but are not limited to...

A winter coat to keep him warm (unlike Saudi, its not 90 degrees during december here), only the best men's fashions for Dr. H.

The most up-to-date cell phone to keep Hussein in touch with Sharif, AbdelRahman, and other friends around the area, not to mention family back home.

and lastly....

The latest in laptop computing techonology, Windows 95 included!

Insha Allah our travel downtown will be safe, and hopefully we'll have enough money to afford all of these expensive advances in technology.

Be back later tonight..
Ma'salaam
